About
A small team, one narrow problem.
PowerSync is operated by Energy Lens (Pty) Ltd. We build equipment and software that shifts residential electric water heating out of the evening peak, and we work with municipalities that need that shift to be measured rather than assumed.
The programme is in pilot. We are deliberate about what we say publicly: where a number would need to be verified before it means anything, we leave it out rather than dress it up.
The design principle behind the product is that a household should never be worse off than it would have been with an ordinary geyser. Everything else follows from that — the hot-water floor, the boost button, the behaviour when the controller loses signal, and the ability to leave.
How we decide things
Four rules we hold to
Never worse off than an ordinary geyser
Every design decision is checked against this. If a failure mode would leave a household colder than a plain thermostat would have, the design is wrong, not the household's expectations.
Say the limit before someone finds it
The controller cannot read water temperature and cannot detect leaks. Those sentences appear on the product pages rather than in a footnote, because a customer who finds a limit for themselves stops believing everything else.
A number needs a method
We publish no savings percentages and no installed-unit counts. When there is an audited fleet result it will be published with its baseline method and its sample.
Consent is the product, not the paperwork
Voluntary enrolment, a working override, a stated cooling-off period and one-tap withdrawal. A programme that needs compulsion to get its numbers has not solved the problem it claims to have solved.
