Accessibility statement

We build to WCAG 2.2 level AA. This page says what that means in practice, and lists what we know is not right yet.

Version 1.0 · Effective 20 September 2026 · Energy Lens (Pty) Ltd

1. What we aim at

This website and the resident app are built to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 at level AA. That target covers the app as well as this site, because a household that cannot read the app cannot tell whether it has hot water.

2. What that means here

  • Every page is usable with a keyboard alone, in a visible order, with a focus outline you can actually see and a skip link to the main content.
  • Body text is 17px with a 64-character measure, and the page reflows to 320px without a horizontal scrollbar.
  • Text colours are checked against their backgrounds. Body text runs at 7:1 or better on paper; nothing below 4.5:1 is used for text at any size.
  • Colour is never the only signal. Device states carry a word as well as a colour, and errors carry text as well as a red rule.
  • Headings are a real hierarchy, tables have real header cells and scopes, and form fields have real labels rather than placeholder text standing in for one.
  • Form errors are announced to a screen reader, are attached to the field they belong to, and say what to do rather than that something is invalid.
  • Tap targets are at least 44px, and the primary controls are larger than that.
  • Motion is minimal, and what there is stops entirely when your device asks for reduced motion.
  • The site works with JavaScript disabled for reading. The two interactive pieces — the installer check and the enrolment form — degrade to a plain submission rather than failing silently.

3. What is not right yet

A statement with no such list is not an accessibility statement. Ours:

  • The distribution-board line drawing is decorative and is described in the text beside it rather than in a long alternative-text block. If you rely on a screen reader and that description is not enough, tell us and we will fix it rather than argue about it.
  • Legal pages are long. We have not yet added in-page navigation to them.
  • The site has been tested with a keyboard, with a screen reader and at 400% zoom, but it has not been through an independent audit. We are not going to claim a conformance level we have not had verified.

4. Tell us

If something on this site or in the app does not work for you, write to info@powersync.co.za and say what you were trying to do, what happened, and what you were using. We will reply within five business days with either a fix or a date for one.

If you need something on this site in another format — large print, plain text, or read to you over the phone — ask, and we will provide it.

5. If you are not satisfied

Accessibility failures may amount to unfair discrimination on the ground of disability under the Promotion of Equality and Prevention of Unfair Discrimination Act 4 of 2000. You may take a complaint to the South African Human Rights Commission. We would rather fix it, and quickly, but you should know the route exists.
